Incarceration and Stratification

Prisons generate and perpetuate social inequalities in various forms, including employment discrimination, health and education disparities and effects on family and relationships. After a brief discussion on the causes of the rise of mass incarceration, this article analyzes research on the effects and role of mass imprisonment on social inequality.
